With a career spanning more than a decade, Avalon has established itself as one of Christian music’s premier vocal groups. In February of 2009, they released their newest project Greatest Hits, to showcase those songs that have made the group famous – songs that have received massive radio airplay and impacted the world for Christ. Avalon is excited about their new album and is thrilled to still be making music. The group recently completed dates with Casting Crowns on their Christmas Celebration Tour. In the late fall, they will be releasing another album and going on tour again. The group members’ families and kids come on the tour, too; which is a blessing.
STILL GOING STRONG
Avalon has been together for 13 years and has sold more than three million albums, charted 20 number 1 singles, and won an American Music Award plus numerous Dove Awards. They have released 12 projects, including one live concert DVD, receiving multiple RIAA - certified Gold records. Avalon originally formed in 1995, with two members of the Christian group Truth (Janna Long and Jody McBrayer). Over the years the group has experienced face and sound changes, leaving to date one original member, Janna Long.
“We created a mission statement 13 years ago: To make quality music and to openly share the Gospel with our songs. And oh, what songs God has given us. That is truly the essence of this group. Songs that have inspired, encouraged and strengthened others in the family of God, have always been what we wanted to be about. Our listeners and fans have also carried us through these years, and we are forever indebted to them all,” Janna said.
The newest member, Jeremi Richardson, has been with the group for about a year and a half. Jeremi, Melissa, and Janna had attended the same college, Lee University in Tenn. He sang with the group, Voices of Liberty, in Orlando, Fla. Melissa and Janna found out about Jeremi through mutual acquaintances. He sent his music to them and immediately had a heart for the ministry of Avalon. Jeremi was a great fit for the group and had the previous experience. On a personal note, Jeremi and his wife just had their second child on March 17, 2009.
Avalon will be singing their current single, Still My God, which is number one on the Christian charts, and features Jeremi. The song serves as a reminder of the sovereignty of God, especially with today’s economy and everything going on in the world. God is the same God in the good and the bad.
