Restoring A Life Worn from Grief

“My mom used to say, through all the obstacles that may come in your way, you have to get over those.
But those obstacles that we have to climb, we're gonna get stronger with each step that we take. We're just gonna keep running and keep stepping over 'em to get to that finish line.” Brian started, a man from Altadena, California, who suffered from the California fires that were ravaging LA.

“We've had fires here in the past and never did we, did the fire ever come down the mountain? So in my eyes, you know, I'm just looking at it. Oh, it's another fire. I seen embers, you know, fly down the driveway. And that's when I turned and looked at my son, sleep on the bed, and I said, no, we're outta here Again. In my mind I'm thinking, okay, they'll evacuate us for a couple of days and then we'll be back.” He continued.

“It was chaos coming here in the back of my mind. I'm saying, it's gonna be there, it's gonna be there. And when I pulled up to the corner there, I could see straight through and I knew that, that it was gone.” He reflected.

“This is where all the, my tools were, you know, right in this area. My water, my dehumidifiers were back there. My water extractor, my help of filters, and also from my coaching and, and training there, personal training. I have a timing system that I had just purchased. “

“You better get up, you know, ain't no quitting here. Of course, there's some things that you'll never get back, but you still have your memories. I'll never lose my memories and, and the love that this house and my mom and my family has brought and instilled in me.”

On the scene Gordon Paterson stated. “Hi, I'm Gordon Robertson. I'm here in Los Angeles where we're helping out with the Operation Blessing Team, providing relief to people who have lost everything as a result of these fires. With me is Brian, but Operation Blessing, thanks to you is here now to help him get back on his feet. So, behind me are all the tools that he's going to need to get his plumbing business restored. And then to add to it, there's a run tech piece of equipment that will time out. His runners, he lost that in the fire too, that's on order, will be delivered to him so he can get back coaching tracks. So Brian, thank you for all that you do for the community. You're such a pillar, and we wanna make sure you get up standing back on your feet"

"Well, thank you, Gordon. I appreciate everything that you and your organization has done and so far, and it's a true blessing. It's overwhelming” Brian reflected in Operation Blessing's aid.

“What's your sense in the community? Do people want to, to rebuild? Do they want to reclaim the legacy here?” He reflected

“Yes, the people want to rebuild. You know, we have a, a, a saying, a motto, you know, out there now is Dean of Strong. It's one big community and it's a family, and we want to support one another so that we can be out there and rebuild.” Brian added.

“You heard it Altadena Pasadena. We want to be Dena Strong. So join with me. Let's pray for these people as they try to rebuild. Lord, I just pray for my brother and, and he's such a pillar in the community. He loves you and he wants to be strong for his community. He wants to be Dina Strong. So we pray over Pasadena, we pray over Altadena, and we ask that you strengthen them in the middle of this crisis. Lord, I ask that people come alongside and say, yes, we want to be part of this. We want to encourage others in their faith. So bless him, Lord God, strengthen him for we ask it in Jesus' name. Amen and amen” Gordon prayed.

“Whenever the kids see the clock out, they know there times very, very thankful. You kn  ow, uh, it's a true blessing, the overwhelming support, and it's just amazing
Gordon: If you've given the Operation Blessing, disaster Relief Fund, you're part of this, you're part of feeding them and for families, just like Brian, you're helping them get back on their feet with very tangible help” Brian finished.

They Only Ate Twice a Day

13-year-old Jorge lives with 3 younger siblings and his mom, who is a single parent. Every day, before school, he helps her to assemble brooms to sell.

Jorge said, “My job is to hammer the bundles of straw into the broom head. I also help my mom with the housework.”

According to the kids’ mom, Rocio, they barely earn enough for the basics.

Rocio explained, “There is only enough food for me to eat once a day.  I make food for the kids to eat twice a day.  There just isn’t enough profit for food and bills.”

Jorge said, “Some days, we did not have anything to eat at night.  There has always been a shortage of food. It hurts me to see that my brothers when they come home from school and cry for food. I see them suffer every day.”

Then Operation Blessing met Rocio and offered to help her grow her business.  Thanks to you, we gave her everything needed to make more brooms faster, including new tools, supplies and a workbench.

“My business is growing day by day.  I even have a little savings.  The number of brooms I make is growing, along with my profits,” said Rocio. “Our lives have changed!  My children now eat before school, and we are not suffering like before. Thank you to the people who helped us!”

Jorge said, “Thanks to the people from Operation Blessing. God bless you.”
