Sturgis Bike Rally, Brian Wilson and Ghosts

Greetings and salutations,

I recently made a trip to Sturgis, South Dakota, and a gathering of approximately (count ‘em) 400,000 motorcyclists from all over the world. I was told by some of the folks there that this was a decline from last years a half of a million. I did not however ride my bike to this event, as my wife Nedra and I had just driven on four wheels through the same region a few weeks ago on our way to Montana.

This Sturgis Motorcycle Rally has been going and growing since its beginnings 67 years ago. So, we thought we’d make a trip into the midst of the 110 degree heat with our camera crew and mingle with multitudes. I returned home sans tattoos but it was an adventure to say the least as we encountered this tribal gathering and talked to a number of people asking them if life was more than motorcycles. Some amazing encounters and also very revealing in regard to the Biblical and spiritual ignorance of people in this so called “Christian nation.”

Watch the feature here.

In addition I had opportunity to talk with Jim Hamilton a guy who moves in these bike circles on a regular basis. His story reveals how God can impact a life even when an individual is almost totally ignorant of His existence.

You can watch this video also.

Brian WilsonOn an other subject for you: Brian Wilson and Beach Boy fans (a rock group from the '60s if you are a post Baby Boomer)... Some of Brian’s lyrics are a sort of self confession as to his spiritual journey throughout the years. I have prayed for him for quite some time.

“Where Has Love Been?” from Imagination:

Where has love been all my life?
That I’ve been looking everywhere
But somehow no one seemed to care

From Happy Days: “Oh God, the pain I’ve been going through.”

Check out what other great musicians have said about Brian Wilson

And finally this prayer request from friends of ours, Wayne & Kathleen working out of Singapore:

“In Chinese tradition, the seventh month in the Chinese calendar is called the Ghost Month, in which ghosts and spirits, including those of the deceased ancestors, come out from the lower world to visit earth. The Ghost Festival is the climax of a series of the Ghost Month celebrations. Traditionally, ancestor worshiping was an important part of the festivals, with activities including preparing ritualistic offering food, and burning hell money and bags containing cloth to please the visiting ghosts and spirits of the ancestors, as well as other deities. A very solemn festival of ancestor worshiping, the festival nevertheless represents a connection between the ancestors and the descendants, the living and the dead, earth and heaven, as well as body and soul.”

Your prayers, just a little extra, would really make a difference this month!

Thanks folks,

Scott
